Erosion is the process in which material is worn away from the Earth's surface, as previously stated in the vocabulary list. Some causes of erosion could be water flowing. In a nearby canyon there are several "ditch" areas that have been created by rainwater flowing down through the trail. |
Deposition can be identified as the natural process of laying down matter. For example, rock slides, land slides, and avalanches are all forms of deposition. These are usually caused by a sudden shift in the composition of the crust or by weather changes. Land slides may occur after a sudden spout of rain. |

Erosion and deposition are similar by the way that they both disrupt the soil's natural composition. |
